"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Walk Gently With The Earth - Conservation of Wildlife

Is the earth our "mother"? What is our definition of mother...the adult that nurtures us when we are yet unborn, and continues to nurture us into adulthood?

The earth provides us with food, water, shelter, entertainment, wonder, lessons is reality, and was there long before us. We tend to hide from the raw power of earthly forces, just as we hide from a mother’s frown or anger at our thoughtless behaviors or orneryness. Yet she provides attention, love, and support in order to help us live our lives to their fullest.

And how do you treat your mother? Do you have room for a spiritual "mother earth"?

As a mother, I want to be treated with gentleness and joy when we are together. Exploring the possibilities. Sharing during trying times. And in turn, I want to treat my mother with gentleness, respect and nurture her when she is in need.

Mother Earth needs our conscious relationship with her. Here are a some ideas to join together with the other members of her family to nurture her in her time of need.
