"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Ceramic Tile and Natural Stone Paving Materials

Ceramic tile and natural stone paving materials are some of the most durable, easy to care for, and stunning design elements for the home -- indoors or outdoors. Many designers create outdoor living rooms with natural materials and ceramic and natural stone materials are great for both flooring and walls-- and even tables, urns, troughs, sinks...plant stands and pool decor.

Recycling solid waste materials such as concrete and ceramic materials are an excellent way to both beautify and conserve resourcs. By reusing, recycling and reducing the manufacturing of new solid materials -- we keep mass out of the landfills and reclaim the long life of our current materials. Waste reduction is a tremendous need today to protect our natural resources such as water quality and soil quality.

Construction techniques can also be "green" when you design your tile or paving material projects. By planning for "semi-permeable" surfaces rather than solid, non-permeable surfaces, you allow rain to soak into your landscaping -- providing your plants with needed moisture, and keeping runoff out of the sewer system. Semi-permeable surfaces can replace sidewalks, driveways, patios, walkways, and other landscaping strategies.

By planting small herbs such as miniature thyme, or moss, or even native wildflowers in the permeable spaces, you bring more green to your home or campus with minimal care. Designing for semi-permeable installation is a way you can make a HUGE difference in the conservation of our urban natural resourcs...and benefit by saving project dollars with smaller materials budgets, more serene greenery in your space, and automatic replenishment of your groundwater supplies.

Daltile, the largest U.S. manufacturer and distributor of ceramic tile and natural stone, adds new product lines and elements for enjoyment of the natural textures of sand and stone.

Villa Valleta and Castle de Verre are outstanding examples of Daltile's ability to create increasingly more realistic natural stone looks in porcelain tiles," said Matthew Kahny, vice president of marketing at Daltile.

Villa Valleta - Glazed Porcelain Floor/Wall Tile uses graphics and color to recreate the timeless beauty and varied color of natural slate, but, unlike slate, Villa Valleta boasts a graceful, soft undulated surface, which produces a rustic, relaxed look. The collection features deep, rich color blends and dramatic random color variation from tile to tile.

Villa Valleta is available in five nature-inspired colors: Indian Summer (similar to Indian Multi); Calais Springs (similar to Mongolian Spring); Sun Valley (similar to Golden Sun); Napa Gold (similar to California Gold); and Mojave Sunset (a Daltile-created gray). Similar to natural slate, varying shades of red, purple and/or tan give the appearance of the iron oxides in the stone.

Villa Valleta is one of the first Daltile products to be developed and produced entirely at the company's new state-of-the-art porcelain plant in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Castle de Verre --Glazed Porcelain Floor/Wall Tile is a floor/wall combination that marries the colors and beauty found in both natural Italian Rapolano and Travertine stone with glass. Castle de Verre's decorative elements, which combine tile, stone and glass to coordinate with any tile from the collection, are designed to be used together, with the designs from the wall decos coming directly from the impressive floor medallion to create a sophisticated, unified look.

In addition to four rustic colors (Turret Beige, Chalice Gold, Grey Stone and Regal Rouge), the Castle de Verre's field tile boasts a softly chiseled edge and non-repeating vein pattern -- no two pieces look exactly alike.

Alta Vista -- Colorbody Porcelain Floor Tile is a Colorbody porcelain floor tile with the lightly-pitted texture and subtle veining of natural stone. Four soft colors include Desert Sand, Sunset Gold, Misty Rain and Drift Wood.

Continental Slate Mosaics replicate the look and texture of natural slate. Additional mosaic sizes and patterns have been added to the collection. Continental Slate Mosaics are mesh-mounted in sheets and are available in four colors: Egyptian Beige, Indian Red, Brazilian Green and Asian Black.

The Rittenhouse Square collection has been extended to include a Harlequin tile. The Harlequin tile is self-spacing and designed to coordinate perfectly with the grout joints of the line sizes, and it is available in four colors: White, Almond, Black and Vermillion. The two new decos, which feature wave and classic floral patterns, are available in White, Almond and Translucent Almond colors. The shelf rail is available in White and Almond.

Dal-Tile Corp. is the largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of ceramic tile and natural stone in the United States. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the company has approximately 7,700 employees at its North American facilities and sells its products through a network of more than 200 company-owned sales service centers, independent distributors and leading home center retailers nationwide.
