![]() Dr. John LivingstonJohn Livingston is one of Canada's foremost naturalists and environmental educators. He has made significant contributions in research and education, broadcasting, and professional environmental consulting. For over 20 years he taught, inspired and mentored thousands of students in his capacity as a Professor at York University's Faculty of Environmental Studies. John has written provocatively and extensively on nature preservation and environmental issues, including the books: Canada: A Natural History, Arctic Oil, and One Cosmic Instant. His book The Fallacy of Wildlife Conservation is used in post-secondary classrooms internationally as a key critique of western values and assumptions around conservation. In 1994, Rogue Primate, An Exploration of Human Domestication, won the Governor General's Award for non-fiction. During his long-standing affiliation with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he wrote numerous award-winning programs for the television program The Nature of Things. John was also the main writer and consultant on the internationally acclaimed series A Planet for the Taking. He has served as president of the Federation of Ontario Naturalists and the Canadian Audubon Society (now the Canadian Nature Federation), and was a founding trustee of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. And he is a co-founder of the internationally recognized environmental consulting firm LGL Environmental Consulting.
