"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Fieldnotes: Jim Karnik's Visions of California

Fieldnotes: On-line video coverage of nature conservation and research efforts throughout California

Fieldnotes California

Fieldnotes California is a new series of on-line video segments in production that cover stories related to protecting, preserving and restoring wild places in California. This special series also profiles parks, reserves and wilderness areas throughout the State. These 3-5 minute video segments are viewable on-line at www.fieldnotes.com.

Over the years, natural history filmmaker, Jim Karnik, has produced numerous video programs on California's wild places. Some focus on particular habitats and species, others discuss important conservation issues including preservation, and restoration. Most were produced through non-profit conservation organizations and present an important conservation message.

Jim's goal with Fieldnotes California is not only to make many of these previously produced programs available online but to create a new series of short informational pieces as streaming video content.

Topics include:
- Habitat research and restoration
- Wildlife monitoring, protection and reintroduction
- Grassroots efforts
- Successes and failures
- Environmental and conservation solutions

"Fieldnotes California is an effort to make quality nature conservation programming accessible to everyone with high speed internet access, and for www.fieldnotes.com to act as an on-line media resource for science and environmental educators and their students" explains Jim. "Fieldnotes California provides conservation organizations, researchers and government agencies an important link through which to share their nature conservation stories."

For more information on Fieldnotes California and to view nature videos online, please explore Fieldnotes.com. Jim Karnik's online streaming shorts will introduce you to the beauty and wonder of the California's diverse ecoystems.

Videos online include:

  • Torrey Pines State Reserve

These shows are also available for sale and rental so you can share them with groups such as classes, nature groups, your spiritual groups...or family. They educate and inspire wonder.
