"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Announcing the birth of SoCal Nature

SoCalNature.org

You might find this interesting if you live in Southern California -- we're launching a directory of sustainable resources in the Southern California region. If you want to save money by saving energy, eating quality food, reducing lawn expenses, etc. -- this will be the spot to find solutions.

We're sprouting -- and growing!

The SoCalNature.org website will host a DIRECTORY of nonprofit nature organizations, commercial businesses that offer sustainable solutions, and government/public programs that help citizens with sustainable solutions. The focus is practical, everyday solutions for individuals, families and businesses.

The reason for this online directory is that SoCal is a bigggggg place -- and it is hard to find sustainable solutions in our very urban, very commercial communities. Quality, sustainable businesses and information sources are here...and people who want to make a difference for their families and communities are here -- it's just hard to find each other.

SoCalNature.org will also host a SOLUTIONS section that will be short overviews of sustainable ideas, techniques, topics with links to providers that specialize in those areas.

And for those of you ready to learn more, volunteer, or attend local green events, there's a SoCalNature CONNECTIONS section with a local Calendar of Events, Volunteer opportuities, Specials and Savings programs, etc. to help you build your sustainable living community.

This effort is just getting started -- and we're gathering together the contents of the database, so if your organization offers sustainable solutions, please forward contact information to carolyn@backyardnature.com and we have a BLOG at www.socalnature.blogspot.com to keep you informed during our startup phase. We'll be sharing some of the really cool resources as we run across them...as well as general buzz about energy saving, great food, fun times in nature, etc.

Your interest and support will nurture this sapling along...and will soon reward you with delicious fruits!

Best regards,
Carolyn Allen
Executive Director
