"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Southern California Audubon chapters for birdwatching

Audubon is a national and regional leader in fostering understanding of nature through conservation, research and environmental education programs for children and adults. This is accomplished with classes, publications, and volunteer opportunities.

With chapters across the country, Audubon is able to sponsor significant "citizen science" projects that protect habitat, monitor populations of birds, and educate the public about local and regional wildlife and habitat issues.

Southern California is blessed with an abundance of chapters who are very active in monitoring habitat and wildlife status and educating our SoCal population. And the comraderie is just fine, too!

You can sign up for their email newsletters to educate yourself about area resources, and then visit your nearby chapter ... you'll find interesting information and lots of stories! As well as nature walks, hikes and projects that make a difference.
