"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

What does Green-e mean?

What is "certified renewable energy" and why does it matter?

Most electricity in the US is produced by burning coal. Coal burning causes tremendous air pollution. Air pollution causes respiratory problems like asthma. Did you know that 9% of Los Angeles children get asthma? Air pollution matters.

Alternative energy includes solar and wind energy alternatives

By working through your local electric company, individuals and companies can pay a bit extra for electricity that is guaranteed to be purchased from renewable sources such as wind power and solar. By creating demand for this alternative source, you are investing in greater development of these no- or low-pollution energy production facilities. It's a pennies-a-month kind of investment that pays off for years ... even decades!

Some products and services are now letting consumers know that they believe in alternative energy, and are using alternative energy in their business practices. It's a kissing cousin of "organic" -- it affects the production cycle, and our overall environmental sustainability.

The Green-e Consumer Product Labeling Program opens up a new communication channel for company promotion of renewable energy purchasing through package labeling and brings renewable energy to the attention of millions of diverse consumers.

Claims such as "Made with Certified Renewable Energy" and "We Buy Certified Renewable Energy" may now appear on consumer products, accompanied by the Green-e logo and website.

The Green-e Consumer Product Labeling Program advances renewable electricity use and builds demand for new generation, by getting in front of millions of Americans through the consumer products they purchase and use every day.

Green-e is a program of the Center for Resource Solutions in San Francisco, CA.
