"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Paul Hawken inspires a new business model - Natural Capitalism

Today's naturalists are often environmentalists. A naturalist is someone who appreciates the natural system of the earth and shares that sensitivity and understanding with people around them.

Paul Hawken was first a businessman, and along his path of success, became an environmentalist, educator, lecturer, journalist, and author.

He is known around the world as a leading proponent of corporate reform with respect to ecological practices. Hawken’s writings and work have caused some CEO’s to transform their internal corporate culture and business philosophy towards environmental restoration. He has served as chairman of The Natural Step, an educational foundation that assists organizations and businesses in 12 countries in creating company policies that have a long term commitment to environmental sustainability.

His Ecology of Commerce was a highly regarded college text on business and the environment in business schools. In Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution, Hawken, Amory and Hunter Lovins wrote about a future in which business and environmental interests increasingly overlap. Growing a Business became the basis of a PBS series that has aired in 115 countries. He helped found The Natural Step in the United States and internationally

Hawken has served on the board of many environmental foundations and gives keynote addresses to organizations and events. He lives in Sausalito, California.
