"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Connecting children to nature at your location! in North Carolina

Melody Wilkes, the owner and naturalist of A Walk in the Woods, Environmental Education Company in Concord, NC is a resource for environmental education programs in their North Carolina region.

They provide outreach programs for schools, preschools, camps, 4-H , scouts, etc. to allow children to learn about the plants and animals that are in our environment.

It's increasingly important today to get kids to take 'a walk in the woods' and reconnect them to nature.

Children can learn about bats, snakes, sea turtles, corals, sharks, NC wildlife, insects, tropical rainforests and more. Melody entusiastically describes their children's programs, "We provide a full program that has a colorful and informative slide show, interactive educational displays, hands-on items and live animal demonstrations. Yes, live animals are part of the program and there are selected animals for touching. We also bring rare and endangered items on loan from the US Fish and Wildlife Service for educational purposes. It is a museum on wheels."

A Walk in the Woods, Environmental Education Company is a great resource for people in their region. Their website www.awalkinthewoods.us.
