"Every child should have mud pies, grasshoppers, waterbugs, tadpoles, frogs & turtles, elderberries, wild strawberries, acorns, hickory nuts, trees to climb, animals to pet, hayfields, pine cones, rocks to roll, sand, snakes, huckleberries and hornets – and any child who has been deprived of these has been deprived of the best part of his education." -Luther Burbank 1849 - 1926

Designing Your Home Surroundings Starts with Limits

Human beings love to create. To design. To enjoy change and innovation and “new and better”. We’ve designed our way into our current challenging times – and I believe we can design our way out of this crisis. But it will take a new level of design that engages consumers as well as manufacturers.

Green lifestyles and business productivity aren’t new. Green has just become more important than in recent decades. Conservation, organic, the simplicity movement, chemical-free, pollution prevention -- these are some of the long term efforts to keep our air clean, water healthful and expectations in line with our naturally balanced earthy systems.

Few people realized there was a limited supply of fish in the ocean, or fresh water. “Unlimited possibilities” was the general attitude about most natural resources until recently – until companies began to bump up against supply limits.

Not until recently did we hear that ocean fish supplies were at the point of collapse. First came temporary conservation measures. Then endangered species designations. Now we’re seeing marine systems at the brink of collapse because we understand the food chain and how all species fit together in a web of life – a mutually interdependent community.
